The Von Arx FG250S is a single-head 250mm surface grinder for concrete and screed preparation and finishing. Where a scarifier chips material away, a grinder abrades it — so the FG250S is the machine for smoothing, levelling and polishing rather than aggressive removal, and it is the natural follow-on tool after a scarifier has taken the bulk of a coating or adhesive off.

Its defining feature on this size of machine is that it converts to an edger. Grinding up to a wall or a column normally means a second machine or a hand-held grinder and a great deal of kneeling; being able to reconfigure the FG250S itself means one unit covers both the open floor and the perimeter. Combined with the 250mm head it makes the machine well suited to rooms, corridors, plant rooms and any area too broken up for a large planetary grinder to be efficient.

The machine takes both a quick-release water hose connector and a 50mm dust extraction hose connector, so it can be run wet for polishing and slurry work or dry with extraction for preparation. Adjustable folding handles set the machine to the operator and fold for transport, and an integrated levelling tool helps set the head accurately to the floor. The grinding disc is an optional extra, which allows the disc specification to be matched to the substrate and the finish rather than supplied as a compromise.

Key Features

250mm working widthsized for rooms, corridors and broken-up areas where a large grinder is inefficient

Converts to an edger — the same machine grinds the open floor and the perimeter, removing the need for a second unit

1.5kW 110 volt motor — standard site power provision

Quick-release water hose connector — wet grinding and polishing without adapters

50mm dust extraction connector — direct connection for dry grinding with on-tool extraction

Adjustable folding handles — set to the operator, folded for transport and storage

Integrated levelling tool — accurate head setting to the floor

Grinding disc optional — disc specified to the substrate and finish required

Diamond Grinding Discs Available:

VA900964: Soft concrete & screed grinding (Blue)

VA900965: Medium concrete grinding (Green)

VA900966: Hard grinding (Red)

VA900974: PCD grinding (Orange)

Commercial Benefits

One machine covers open floor and edge work, avoiding a second hire line.

Wet or dry capability suits both polishing contracts and dry preparation with extraction.

Pairs naturally behind a scarifier — the two together cover removal and finishing

Optional disc selection lets the hire desk match consumables to the job and bill accordingly

Compact and foldable, so it transports and stores without occupying a bay

Use in Conjunction With the S2 and S3 Dust Extractors

The FG250S carries a 50mm dust extraction connector specifically so it can be run coupled to an extractor, and Von Arx show the FG 250 S paired with their S2 dust extractor in the manufacturer’s own documentation. Dry grinding of concrete without extraction produces a very fine airborne dust that travels much further than the coarser debris from a scarifier, so the case for specifying the pair is stronger here, not weaker.

Health note: Dry cutting, grinding and scarifying of concrete releases respirable crystalline silica. On-tool extraction to an H-class standard is the recognised engineering control, and specifying the machine and the extractor together is what makes that control workable on site.

The S2 gives 400 m³/h of airflow at 22 kPa vacuum through a conical pre-filter and H13 HEPA main filter, with jet pulse cleaning to keep the filter clear during continuous grinding and Longopac continuous bagging for disposal without opening the unit. For larger areas, prolonged grinding or a second machine running alongside, the S3 provides 600 m³/h from three motors and comes with both 7.5 metre and 10 metre hoses — useful on a grinder, which tends to work further from a fixed extractor position than a scarifier does.

For wet grinding the extractor is not used, so a fleet carrying the FG250S should hold both options: the water connection for polishing and slurry work, and an S2 or S3 for dry preparation where slurry cannot be tolerated — occupied buildings, upper floors, and anywhere without drainage.
